WANGSHOUYI 13 Spices spice mix, also known as Shi San Xiang, is a traditional Chinese spice blend with an intense, aromatic taste. The finely tuned combination of 13 spices such as star anise, cinnamon, galangal, cardamom and cloves gives Asian dishes a distinctive, warm, spicy aroma. What is Shi San Xiang?
Shi San Xiang (十三香) literally means “Thirteen Spices” and is a well-known spice blend from Chinese cuisine that has been used for centuries. Each region in China has its own version, but WANGSHOUYI is considered one of the most traditional and well-known producers of this blend.
Special features of the WANGSHOUYI 13 Spices mixture
The spices are carefully balanced to create a complex, deep aroma with sweet, spicy and slightly bitter notes. The mixture gives traditional Chinese dishes such as red braised pork belly (Hong Shao Rou), mapo tofu or hotpot a distinctive flavor base.

🍖 Chinese Red Braised Pork (Hong Shao Rou)
Preparation:
- Cut 500 g pork belly into cubes and fry briefly.
- Caramelize with 2 tablespoons of sugar and deglaze with soy sauce and Shaoxing wine.
- Add 1 teaspoon of WANGSHOUYI 13 spices, pour in water and simmer for 1 hour.
- Serve with spring onions.
🥢 Marinated tofu with 13 spice flavor
Preparation:
- Marinate tofu cubes with soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic and 1/2 teaspoon spice mixture.
- Let it steep for at least 30 minutes.
- Fry in the pan until crispy and serve with rice.
🍲 Spicy soup with vegetables
Preparation:
- Cook vegetables such as bok choy, carrots and mushrooms in broth.
- Add 1 teaspoon of the spice mixture and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Refine with fresh coriander and chili oil.
